TURN FROM SIN

Ephesians 4:20-24 (NLT)
But that isn’t what you learned about Christ. 21 Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, 22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. 24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.

Romans 6:12-14 (NLT)
Do not let sin control the way you live, do not give in to sinful desires. 13 Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. 14 Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.

COMMENT
Jesus paid the price for our sin, past, present and future. STOP…..now reread the previous sentence and allow this reality to penetrate your spirit! When we accept Jesus as our Lord & Saviour our sins and forgotten (Hebrew 8:12), they are as far from us as the East is from the West (Psalm 103:12).

Sometimes when we fall into sin we forget that Jesus has already paid the price for it and when this happens the Devil has a field day with us. The Devil’s plan is to have us bound up and tormented. He tries to bring condemnation and shame so that we will turn from God. Sin is one of the greatest hinderances to intimacy with God.

When we are involved with things that we shouldn’t be, that are not part of God’s plan for us, we create space for the enemy to bring havoc in our lives. For those who are saved, the answer lies in repenting and turning from sin. This type of repentance restores our relationship with God and bring us closer to him. Paul says we are to, “give ourselves completely to God……let the Spirit renew our thoughts and attitudes. Put on our new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.”

Whereas the enemy brings condemnation and shame, God brings conviction and change to our lives. Jesus always brings life and freedom to our lives!

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

  1. Are there areas of your life that are creating space for the enemy to negatively impact your intimacy with God?

  2. Have you fully embraced the truth that Jesus has paid the price for your sin, past, present and future?

  3. What hinderances are there in your life stopping you from giving yourself fully to God?

PERSONAL CHALLENGE

Today, spend a minimum of 15min with God, no distractions, and be totally honest, share your heart and allow time for him to speak to you.

MAIN QUESTION (SELF REFLECTION)

What is God speaking to you about through this passage?

Encourage others by sharing your revelation in the group chat!
This is a self-reflection about what God is speaking directly to you about in YOUR life.
Words like “I” and “Me” are encouraged, “we” and “us” less so.
