COMMENT
When we have intimate relationship with God we are reminded regularly of his promises, who he is and who we are in him.

In this passage Jesus says, “You are the salt of the Earth.” Exactly what he meant by this isn’t clearly articulated. What we do know is at that time salt was a valuable commodity, used as a preservative and as a flavour enhancer. Without it, food is quick to decay and was tasteless.

In this passage, perhaps Jesus was indicating that we are the preservative that slows down the advancement of moral and spiritual decay in our world, that we are God’s spice and flavour in a fallen world corrupted by sin. As Christ’s disciples we are called to live righteous lives different to the world. Spending time in God’s presence keeps us salty (not the modern version of “salty” LOL).

What a privilege it is to be the carriers of God’s presence, bringing heaven to earth each and every day!

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

  1. How salty are you at the moment?

  2. How do you feel about Jesus saying, “You are the salt of the Earth”?

PERSONAL CHALLENGE

Today, spend a minimum of 15min with God, no distractions, and ask him to speak to you about who you are in Christ, the inheritance you have been given, his promises and what he has done for you….ask him to help you to live out of these realities.

MAIN QUESTION (SELF REFLECTION)

What is God speaking to you about through this passage?

Encourage others by sharing your revelation in the group chat!
This is a self-reflection about what God is speaking directly to you about in YOUR life.
Words like “I” and “Me” are encouraged, “we” and “us” less so.

PERSONAL PRAYER STARTER
Lord, help me to bring you to the world around me. Empower me by your Holy Spirit to be a carrier of your presence wherever I go. In Jesus name, amen.
