COMMENT
How important is light? If you have even been outside on a dark night without a light source you know that it can be hard to navigate without running into things and hurting yourself. All you can think about is, “I wish I had a light.” When you turn on a light or a torch everything changes, you can see…pretty useful and important. It enables us to see what we are doing. Light is bright and dispels darkness, light and dark can’t coexist.
But Light has a far greater importance than simply allowing us to see. As it travels from the sun it is filtered and brings energy to everything it touches. Without it, our world wouldn’t exist….it’s essential to life itself.
The world we are living is dark…..and it’s getting darker and darker as it moves further and further away from the morals and values taught by Jesus. In this dark world we are the light! Jesus made it very personal….he said, “YOU are the light on the world.” We all carry the responsibility of shining God’s light and not hiding it away. In many situations we are the only person that can bring light into it because the others around us don’t have any. Sometimes there may be others present but they have their light turned off.
The thing about light sources is that they can be turned on and off. Spending time with God in the secret place help us to keep our lights switched on no matter what or who is around us. Once the light is turned on it’s amazing what it brings. Jesus is the answer to all things!
He told his followers to "let your light shine before others.” He has called us to live an active faith, not a passive one. We are to put our lights on a stand for all to see….your family, your community or everyone.
YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD!
