A DIVIDED HEART - Part 2
James 1:5-8 (NLT)
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.
COMMENT
What an incredible promise…when you ask God for wisdom he will give it to you! Wisdom from the throne room of God, from the creator of the universe.…wow!
What’s interesting here is that like many things in the Bible, the promise is conditional. According to this passage, the key to accessing his wisdom is to not be double minded….to have your faith in God alone and to not follow the ways of the world. One of the challenges of our modern world is that the things of the world are being constantly thrown in our face. The way of the world is one of the loudest voices. It’s so easy for worldly thinking to creep in.
God’s ways are so much better than ours, yet how often do you rely on worldly wisdom and / or our own wisdom to get you through instead of his? It takes time to seek him and aquire his wisdom. We need to be purposeful about spending time in his presence and inviting him to speak into our life. Wisdom is one of the many byproducts of intimacy with God.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
What wisdom do you primarily live out of, your own or God’s?
2. What is the greatest threat to you being 100% sold out to God?
3. What do you profess with your mouth?
4. Can you remember a time when you relied on God’s wisdom? What was the outcome and how did you acquire his wisdom?
PERSONAL CHALLENGE
Today, spend 15-30min alone with God…no noise, no distractions, just you and Him in a quiet place.
