COMMENT
There is a wonderful shift that happens in our hearts when we realise that the church is not a place we simply attend but a family we belong to. Spiritual maturity is the joyful transition from being a consumer to becoming a true partner in what God is doing. We must remember that the Church is a God-instituted family and when we serve we are actually partnering with Him to build His Kingdom. We stop asking what the house can do for us and instead follow the example of Jesus who said He did not come to be served but to serve. This is what turns a spectator into a partner who is co-labouring with God.
For our service to be truly effective it needs to be in alignment with the house. We see in the Kingdom that God’s anointing and blessing flow from the top down and when we choose to come under our leaders we are choosing to trust the God who placed them there. By choosing to honour and align with our leaders, we position ourselves under a spiritual covering that offers incredible protection and security for our journey. Real maturity is realising that our ability to lead others is always tied to our willingness to be led ourselves. Just as a player needs a coach to see the whole game we benefit from leaders who see the bigger picture and help us stay in a place of spiritual safety.
When we serve in this place of Kingdom order we find a unique peace knowing we are exactly where God wants us to be. The Church is God's answer to a hurting world and it is a beautiful thing to be part of a mission so much bigger than ourselves. Here in the house of the Lord we see lives touched and changed, people being saved, and disciples being made. As we use our specific gifts for the common good we move from the sidelines into the heart of what God is doing. Every victory won becomes something we get to celebrate as a family. There is no greater joy than being fully invested in the local church and seeing His purposes fulfilled through our united service.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU BECOME A PARTNER
Increased Purpose: You move from the sidelines into the heart of the action. Your life takes on a new level of meaning as you see God use your specific gifts to build His house.
Spiritual Protection: By inviting leadership to speak into your life, you gain a layer of wisdom that protects you from blind spots and helps you stay on the right path.
Shared Victories: When you are a partner, every life changed in the church becomes a win you get to celebrate personally. You are part of the team that made it happen.
Relational Depth: Serving alongside others creates the strongest bonds. You find your closest friends while standing shoulder to shoulder in the mission.
Humble Authority: As you learn the beauty of following well, you find that your own influence and leadership capacity grow naturally and in a way that others want to follow.
THE STEWARDSHIP OF SERVICE TEST
Pick the number that best describes where you feel you’re at right now. Where ever you are pray about what might be your next step to move forward.
Spectator and Consumer: I mainly attend to receive. I am not currently involved in service, and I tend to view ministry through the lens of how it meets my personal needs.
Occasional Contributor: I am happy to help when there is an urgent need or a special event. I often view service as a task to be completed rather than a life giving discipline.
Committed Contributor: I am a reliable part of a ministry team. I realise that my contribution is important for the health of the church, and I show up consistently.
Fully Invested Partner: I lead with a "whatever it takes" heart. I see myself as a true partner in the mission, and I find joy in flowing with the vision of my leaders.
MAIN QUESTIONS
(Self Reflection)
Let’s Talk in the Chat
(on the Boot Camp group in Planning Center)One of the best parts of this journey is that we aren’t doing it alone. We’d love for our chat to be a place of real connection. As you go through each day, please jump in and share:
God’s Voice: What is one specific thing you feel the Holy Spirit is whispering to your heart?
Self-Reflection: What did the "test" reveal to you today?
The Wins: Did you do one of the action points? Tell us about it!
Testimony: How has your perspective shifted since you moved from being a spectator to a partner in God's house?
Please Read:
Don't worry about sounding 'spiritual' The most encouraging thing you can share is your honest process. This is a self-reflection about what God is speaking directly to you about in YOUR life. Words like “I” and “Me” are encouraged, “we” and “us” less so.
ACTION POINTS
The Partnership Ask: Reach out to a leader today and ask a simple, encouraging question: "How can I best support the vision of the house this week?"
The Alignment Check: Take a moment to think of a time you disagreed with a leader. Ask God to help you see the situation through His eyes and for a heart of humble alignment.
The Prayer Walk: For your next service, arrive fifteen minutes early just to walk through the room and pray for the people who will be sitting in the seats.
PERSONAL PRAYER STARTER
"Lord, help me to move past being a consumer and start being a true partner in Your house. Give me a humble heart that is willing to be led and a spirit that is eager to serve. Thank You for the leaders You have placed in my life. Amen."
