HIS POWER IN YOUR WEAKNESS
(Comfort vs Dependency)
SCRIPTURE PASSAGES
2 Corinthians 12:9-10
"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness..."
John 15:5
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."
COMMENT
It’s a wonderful thing to have talents and skills, but the greatest growth often happens when we move beyond what we can do in our own strength. It is easy to run on "auto-pilot" when we feel confident in our abilities, but we truly begin to flourish when we live in a state of dependency on God. The Bible offers us the incredible encouragement that God’s power isn't limited by our capacity. In fact, His strength shines most brightly when we reach the end of our own.
Spiritual maturity is the refreshing shift from saying "I’ve got this" to the powerful admission of "I need You." There is such joy in being willing to step into situations that feel "over your head," because those are the very moments where we get a front-row seat to see God move. When we let go of the pressure to look perfect and simply embrace how much we need Him, we open the door for His Spirit to do the impossible through us.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU EMBRACE DEPENDENCY
The Weight is Lifted: When you stop trying to be the source of strength, you no longer carry the stress of performing perfectly. The pressure is on the Vine, not the branch.
Supernatural Results: You start seeing outcomes that your talent alone couldn't produce. When you work in your own strength, you get "human" results; when you work in His, you see "Kingdom" results.
Genuine Humility: Success no longer goes to your head because you know exactly who did the heavy lifting. You become a "window" that people look through to see God, rather than a "mirror" reflecting yourself.
Fearless Obedience: You are no longer afraid of "failing" in front of others. If God calls you to something you can't do, you know it’s just a setup for His power to be made perfect.
Deepened Intimacy: You talk to God more. Dependency creates a constant, running conversation with the Father because you realize you can't even "breathe" spiritually without Him.
THE COMFORT VS DEPENDENCY TEST
Pick the number that best describes where you feel you’re at right now. Where ever you are pray about what might be your next step to move forward.
1 — Self-Sufficient & Comfortable: I have done my role so many times that I can do it on "auto-pilot." I rarely feel a sense of desperate need for God’s help before I serve because I know I have the skills to get through it on my own.
2 — Routine-Reliant: I pray for God to "bless my efforts," but I’m not really asking Him to do the impossible. I stay strictly within my comfort zone and avoid tasks or situations that might make me look weak or require a miracle.
3 — Occasional Risk-Taker: I sometimes step out into areas that feel "bigger than me," and in those moments, I pray fervently. However, I tend to default back to my own strength as soon as the pressure eases or I become familiar with the task.
4 — Desperately Dependent: I intentionally live and serve in the "gap." I realize that even my best skills are "filthy rags" without His Spirit. I am comfortable being "in over my head" because it forces me to rely on His strength.
MAIN QUESTIONS
(Self Reflection)
Let’s Talk in the Chat
(on the Boot Camp group in Church Center)
One of the best parts of this journey is that we aren’t doing it alone. We’d love for our chat to be a place of real connection. As you go through each day, please jump in and share:
Self-Reflection: What did the "test" reveal to you today?
God’s Voice: What is one specific thing you feel the Holy Spirit is whispering to your heart?
The Wins: Did you do one of the action points? Tell us about it!
God’s Strength: What’s one thing you do so well that you usually forget to pray about it?
Please Read:
Don't worry about sounding 'spiritual' The most encouraging thing you can share is your honest process.
This is a self-reflection about what God is speaking directly to you about in YOUR life.
Words like “I” and “Me” are encouraged, “we” and “us” less so.
ACTION POINTS
1. Pray the Gap: Pick a task you are confident in. Before you start, pray: "Lord, I can't even do this small thing without You."
2. Step Out: Volunteer for something this week that feels slightly "too hard" for you to do alone.
3. Admit the Need: Tell a friend one area where you feel overwhelmed and ask them to pray for God's strength to help you.
PERSONAL PRAYER STARTER
"Lord, I confess that I often try to do things in my own strength because it feels safer. Help me to be okay with being 'weak' so that Your power can shine through me. Amen."
14 DAYS OF PRAYER (Corporate Prayer)
We are praying for our OASIS YOUTH and the YOUTH OF OUR CITY.
Possible prayer areas: That they would encounter God in a real way. That God would give them wisdom beyond their years and help them to stay on the narrow road.
