SESSION NOTES FOR PART 4
Leadership Proverb - He who think he leadeth and have no one following him, is only taking a walk.
Our leadership with others usually is not in all areas. We can influence people in certain areas but not in others. Leaders understand their strengths and weaknesses and the strengths and weaknesses of their team. They release others to influence things that they cannot. With influence comes responsibility.
Do other people desire to be around me or do they avoid me?
People of positive influence add value to other people. Success is when I add value to myself, significance is when I add value to others.
TEN WAYS TO GAIN INFLUENCE
1. Integrity with people
2. Nurture people
3. Faith in People
NOTE: These are continued in Part 5.
Integrity with people - Without it success is not possible. It’s always easy to do right when you know ahead of time what you stand for. To have integrity your need character and you need competence.
Nurture people - Many leaders love their position more than their people.
Nurturing people does not mean needing people (your worth); Nurturing people does mean that you are going to make a commitment to people, Nurturing people does mean loving people; Nurturing people does mean lifting people to a higher level.
Faith in people - It’s all perspective. None of us are good enough if someone wants to see us through our bad traits. Leaders see people not just as they are, they see people as they can become.
Three feelings to avoid: fear, dislike, contempt.
The first responsibility of a leader is to look at them and have faith in them.
