THE POWER OF THE CALL

SETTING THE SCENE
Before Moses ever parted a sea, struck a rock, or delegated to seventy elders, he was a fugitive hiding on the backside of a desert. He had spent forty years tending sheep, likely convinced that his days of influence were permanently behind him. He wasn't looking for a leadership position; he wasn't trying to build a platform. But God bypassed the palaces of Egypt and the elite of Israel, walked right into the wilderness, and called Moses by name from a burning bush.

SCRIPTURE PASSAGES

Exodus 3:4, 10 (NLT)
"When the Lord saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, 'Moses! Moses!' 'Here I am!' Moses replied... 'Now go, for I am sending you to Pharaoh. You must lead my people Israel out of Egypt.'"

John 15:16 (NLT)
"You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name."

Galatians 1:15 (NLT)
"But even before I was born, God chose me and called me by his marvelous grace."

COMMENT
There is an incredible, unshakeable power in knowing that God has specifically chosen you. In church life, it is easy to feel like you are just filling a gap on a volunteer roster, or that you only got the position because you were the only one available. But biblical leadership doesn't begin with human ambition or a lucky break; it begins with a divine appointment. God knew your history, your flaws, your current capacity, and your struggles, and He still pointed at you and said, "I want you."

When you deeply understand that you are chosen by God, it revolutionizes how you lead downward. Imposter syndrome loses its grip because your placement isn't based on your perfection; it’s based on His purpose. You don't have to hustle for your worth, compete with other leaders, or constantly defend your position.

The confidence of a true leader does not come from their own skills, but from the unshakeable conviction that the Creator of the universe intentionally placed them in the room. You aren't here by accident. You are here because He called you. When this realization sinks into your soul, you stop leading from a place of insecurity and start leading from a place of secure calling. You are marked by God to lead this team, carry this vision, and step into this new season of expanded capacity.

WAYS TO WALK IN YOUR CALLING

  • Embrace New Confidence: You stop suffering from imposter syndrome. You realize you don't have to be the most talented person in the room because your authority comes from God’s calling, not your capability

  • Model More Resilience: When people criticize you or the ministry gets intensely difficult, you don't quit. You are anchored by the fact that you are answering to the One who placed you there, not the opinions of the crowd.

  • Expect Less Hustle: You stop striving to prove you deserve the role. You can finally rest in the grace that equipped you for it, allowing you to focus on serving rather than surviving.

  • Focus on His Authority: When God chooses you, He backs you. You step into your responsibilities carrying a spiritual weight and peace that cannot be manufactured by human effort.

THE CALLING SELF ASSESSMENT
Pick the number that best describes where you feel you’re at right now. Wherever you are, pray about what might be your next step to move forward.

1.     Accidental Leader: I feel like I am just filling a gap or ended up in this role by accident. I constantly question if I really belong here and often feel like an imposter.

2.     Insecure Striver: I hope God called me, but I constantly hustle to prove my worth to others. I am driven by a fear that people will eventually figure out I am not good enough for this position.

3.     Growing in Conviction: I am starting to believe God intentionally placed me here, but I still let a bad day or a critical comment make me doubt my calling and want to step back.

4.     Secure & Chosen: I have absolute peace that God specifically selected me for this season. I lead from a place of secure identity in Him, completely free from the need to prove myself.

ACTION POINTS

  • The First Five: Give God the first five minutes of your day in silence before checking your phone, intentionally surrendering your hidden motives and your desire for personal weaknesses.

  • The Capability Audit: Think about the area of leadership where you feel the most confident. Ask God to show you if you have accidentally crowded Him out of that space with your self-reliance.

  • Pray the Gap: Identify one specific inadequacy you feel in your leadership right now. Instead of trying to fix it or hide it today, pray and thank God for it, asking Him to fill the gap with His presence.

MAIN QUESTIONS
(Self Reflection)

Let’s Talk in the Chat
(on the Boot Camp group in Planning Center)

One of the best parts of this journey is that we aren’t doing it alone. We’d love for our chat to be a place of real connection. As you go through each day, please jump in and share:

  1. Self Reflection: What did the test reveal to you today?

  2. God’s Voice: What is one specific thing you feel the Holy Spirit is whispering to your heart?

  3. The Wins: Did you do the First Five minutes of silence? Tell us about it!

  4. The Call: How does knowing that God specifically chose you change the way you view the pressures and insecurities of your current role?

Please Read:
Don't worry about sounding 'spiritual' The most encouraging thing you can share is your honest process. This is a self-reflection about what God is speaking directly to you about in YOUR life. Words like “I” and “Me” are encouraged, “we” and “us” less so.

PERSONAL PRAYER STARTER
"Lord, I’ll be honest, sometimes I feel like I'm just making it up as I go, and I wonder if I really belong in this leadership role. Forgive me for doubting Your placement. Thank You for looking at my life and deliberately choosing me. Help me to anchor my confidence not in my own skills, but in the unshakeable truth of Your calling. Give me the courage to lead today with the quiet authority of someone who knows they are chosen by You. Amen."
